The overall project consisted of the construction of new directional roadway signage for the McCarran International Airport Terminal 3 along various access roadways. This included the installation of 16 walk in dynamic message signs with steel structures and CIDH piles, 22 sign structures on CIDH piles with overhead panels, 60 overhead and ground mounted sign panels around the existing airport terminal roadways, and 55 ground mounted trailblazer signs on the roadways surrounding the airport. The project required the relocation of existing water, sewer and streetlighting utilities, modification of the existing traffic signal, and the grading and paving of three turn lanes at Tropicana and Paradise. The existing asphalt paving on Paradise from Tropicana to Kitty Hawk was milled and overlaid with UTACS pavement and striped for the new roadway configuration. New median islands and slotted curbs were installed on Paradise Rd., Tropicana Ave., Russell Rd. and Eastern Ave. New barrier rail and guardrail was installed along the freeway at the airport connector ramps where the roadway was widened with new asphalt and concrete paving. A wireless communication system with 1 master radio and 8 remote radio sites was installed to allow for the programming of the new dynamic message signs from a centralized location within the airport. Due to the widespread locations and nature of the work coordination was required with several public entities including CCDOA, CCPW, NDOT, LVVWD, NV Energy and CCWRD. The construction was required to be tightly sequenced and managed to maintain access to the airport and finish in conjunction with the grand opening of the new airport terminal.
