Description: Commercial Project Engineer (Public Sector)

Salary: $50,000.00 – $110,000.00 per year plus extensive benefits

The Project Engineer for New-Com, Inc. supports Project Managers and Superintendents in the planning, coordination, and execution of commercial building projects within the public sector. This position serves as a key member of the project team, assisting in documentation, cost control, scheduling, and field coordination. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, eager to learn, and thrives in a fast-paced construction environment.

To be successful in this position, the candidate will:

• Support the Project Manager in the execution of $1M–$50M public-sector commercial projects.
• Assist with submittals, RFIs, change orders, and other project documentation in accordance with public contract requirements.
• Help manage and maintain project schedules, drawings, and specifications.
• Track quantities, assist with pay applications, and help monitor project budgets.
• Coordinate procurement of materials and equipment, ensuring timely delivery and proper documentation.
• Communicate regularly with subcontractors, suppliers, and design teams to maintain progress and resolve issues.
• Participate in project meetings, take meeting minutes, and track action items.
• Support compliance efforts including prevailing wage, certified payroll, DBE/SMWBE participation, and permit documentation.
• Assist in close-out documentation, including as-builts, O&M manuals, and warranty tracking.
• Learn and apply company project management systems and best practices.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• 1–5 years of experience in commercial construction, preferably in public works or government-funded projects.
• Knowledge of construction processes, drawings, and specifications.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with Procore, Primavera, or Bluebeam preferred.
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Positive attitude, willingness to learn, and commitment to team success.
